Obexer’s Boat Company First California Marina to Put a Large Capacity Zero-Emission Forklift into Operation

XL Lifts

Company Utilizes California’s CORE Funding Leads the Charge in Zero-Emission Marina Operations

Ventura, CA – Monday, September 23, 2024 — XL Lifts, specializing in zero and low emissions forklifts, today announced that Obexer’s Boat Company, a mainstay on the picturesque shores of Lake Tahoe, has taken a significant leap toward sustainability by integrating the first zero-emission Wiggins eBull Marina forklift into their operations. The eBull, supplied by XL Lifts and partially funded through the California’s Clean Off-Road Program, marks a milestone in marina management and environmental responsibility.

Obexer’s Boat Company, renowned for its comprehensive range of marina services, including mechanical and restoration services, water sports, and winter storage, has recently enhanced its operational capacity with a groundbreaking upgrade. The new eBull electric forklift is transforming day-to-day operations, reducing emissions significantly, and improving communication among staff due to quieter operations.

Darren Kramer, General Manager of Obexer’s Boat Company, noted the critical role the forklifts play from May through October, stating, “Without them, we couldn’t operate. The new eBull is helping us cut down on emissions and make it safer for our operators to hear staff while they spot for the driver.”

The decision to adopt a zero-emission forklift was driven by the construction of a new warehouse and the marina’s dedication to the “Keep Tahoe Blue” initiative. “After owning two Wiggins lifts that still run great after nearly 20 years, we knew we wanted another Wiggins,” said Kramer. The availability of grant funding through California’s CORE program was a crucial factor in making this sustainable transition feasible.

The eBull forklift not only supports Obexer’s in handling larger boats efficiently but also aligns with the marina’s environmental goals. “It’s possibly the first zero-emission forklift in Tahoe and maybe even in California marinas,” Kramer added. This move places Obexer’s at the forefront of sustainable marina operations, setting a benchmark for the industry.

Kramer encourages other marinas to consider similar sustainable practices, highlighting the exceptional service and partnership with XL Lifts. “Talk to Wiggins and XL Lifts. From the top down, they have always been amazing to work with,” he noted.

To check eligibility for CORE funding, interested companies can fill out XL Lifts’s CORE Application Intake form here. View XL Lifts’s expansive line of qualified forklifts and related vouchers here.

As Obexer’s Boat Company continues to lead by example, their journey with the Wiggins eBull forklift demonstrates the potential for traditional businesses to embrace modern, eco-friendly technologies effectively.

Proven and Deployed Wiggins Yard eBull Now in its Fifth Year of Production

May 2, 2023 — ACT Expo, Anaheim, CA — XL Lifts, specializing in zero and low emissions forklifts, today announced its fleet of large-capacity lithium forklifts at SSA Marine in the Port of West Sacramento and in the Port of Stockton are now in full operation. A similar forklift used by SSA Marine will be on display in the XL Lifts booth #6132.

The first large-capacity fleet deployed in California and the USA, SSA Marine at the Port of West Sacramento and Port of Stockton utilized funds from the Clean Off-Road Equipment (CORE) incentive program and START (formerly ZANZEFF Project – zero emission and near zero emissions freight facilities project) to partially fund its fleet of 26 large capacity lithium forklifts. Primarily used to unload cargo off vessels in the Port of Stockton and Port of West Sacramento, some of the forklifts have been in operation for over a year, and some were deployed within the past few months.

Regional Vice President at SSA Pacific Joe Carrillo commented, “The Wiggins Yard eBulls are significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions and sound pollution, while enabling us to effectively service our customers. We were one of the first to deploy zero-emission large-capacity forklifts and we are thrilled to be leading the charge in zero emission at the Port of West Sacramento and at the Port of Stockton and beyond.”

Originally unveiled in 2018, the Wiggin’s eBull was the industry’s first commercialized large capacity, zero-emissions forklift manufactured in the United States, and is now in its fifth year of production. With the largest deployed large-capacity lithium forklifts in the field, Wiggins is years ahead of the competition.

“With the Yard eBull, companies no longer need to choose between high-performance and energy-efficiency,” said Mike Marzahl, president of XL Lifts. “Five years in means we have had many lessons learned, and our customers are now reaping the benefits of this valuable insight. The Wiggins eBull is proven, in use with real customers and performing incredibly.”

The announcement comes at the heels of the next round of CORE funding, slated to open in Spring 2023. Vouchers are up to $500k. To check eligibility, interested companies can fill out the CORE Application Intake form here. View XL Lift’s expansive line of qualified forklifts and related vouchers here.

XL Lifts, specializing in zero and low emissions forklifts, today announced additional World Lift and Wiggins forklifts are now eligible to participate in California’s Clean Off-Road Equipment Voucher Incentive Project (CORE) and now qualify for up to $500,000 in incentives. Amounts vary based on lifting capacity, voltage output of chargers and location of forklift operations. Eligible forklifts include the World Lithium, an 8,820-pound lifting capacity, all-weather lithium-ion forklift for indoor and outdoor use, and several Wiggins Lift eBull forklifts with lifting capacity up to 70,000 pounds for indoor and outdoor use.

Base forklift vouchers are up to $500,000 per forklift and up to $30,000 for infrastructure. CORE also offers additional incentives for companies operating in CARB-approved disadvantaged communities. Vouchers are based on a first-come basis, so interested companies are encouraged to see if they qualify now. See the list of qualified forklifts.

“XL Lifts (a World and Wiggins Forklift dealer) is excited to offer its customers a cost-effective way to purchase zero-emission lithium forklifts,” said Mike Marzahl, President of XL Lifts. “Similar to the incentives previously offered for electric vehicles, we anticipate limited or reduced funding in the future. As a result, we strongly encourage our customers to take advantage of available funds now.”

The CORE program is intended to encourage California freight equipment users to purchase or lease currently commercialized zero-emission off-road freight equipment. This streamlined voucher incentive project helps offset the higher cost of zero-emission technology with a point-of-sale discount. There is no scrappage of existing forklift required.

World Forklift West and XL Lifts Unveil the Second-Generation World Lithium Forklift, the Industry’s First All Weather, Low-Capacity Lithium Electric Forklift

Aimee Quemuel

New Forklift Line Eliminates Need to Purchase Both Indoor and Outdoor Forklift Fleets

Ventura, CA — World Forklift West, a World Lift master distributor, and XL Lifts, specializing in zero and low emissions forklifts and a World Lift dealer, today announced the 2020 World Lithium forklift, the industry’s first low-capacity lithium electric forklift for indoor and outdoor use.

The second-generation all-weather World Lithium Forklift is designed specifically for use with lithium batteries and outside use. Other standard brand forklift companies are still offering a first-generation converted lead-acid forklift that uses steel plates inside the lithium battery housing as counterweight to compensate for the weight of a lead acid battery. The result is a significantly heavier, wider and bulkier lift that does not work outside or inside tight turning radius quarters.

Because the 2020 World Lithium is designed for lithium, it boasts a streamlined footprint that enables the forklift to operate in small working areas or sharp turning radius requirements, without compromising on lifting capacity. For example, the World Lithium 8,000 lb. capacity requires the same space/area as a conventional 5,000 lb. or 6,000 lb. LPG forklift.

“Beyond the upfront cost savings, the newly designed World Lithium forklift utilizes fast charging lithium ion batteries making World Lithium forklifts one of the first lower-capacity zero emissions forklifts to run continuous shifts with brief opportunity charging on breaks, lunches and between shifts,” said Peter Vaz, President of World Lift. “The result is minimal downtime for increased productivity without the bigger and bulkier footprint of older lead-acid battery converted forklifts. We are thrilled to introduce this innovative electric forklift to the market.”

“XL Lifts (a World Forklift dealer) is excited to offer its customers a second-generation zero-emission forklift alternative that can be used in all-weather conditions — even in the rain and snow. This innovation means that companies no longer need to purchase two forklifts, such as an LPG/diesel and an electric forklift, one for outdoors and one for indoors,” said President of XL Lifts Mike Marzahl. “Plus, with the ability to be charged outdoors*, companies no longer have to allocate precious and expensive indoor space or battery rooms to house and charge their World Lithium forklifts, like they currently need to with their lead-acid electric forklifts.”

Currently, some industries, have had no choice, but to purchase multiple forklift fleets of forklifts for indoor and outdoor use. For example, agriculture and warehousing companies need to move produce or product from field outside trucks using LPG or diesel forklifts, to a staging area, and finally to and inside the cooling plant or enclosed warehouse using an electric forklift. But now, with the all-weather, zero emissions World Lithium Forklift, agriculture and warehousing companies can unload produce and product from field trucks and move pallets of inventory directly into the cooling plant(s) or warehouse using just one forklift, saving significant time and money. This would also apply to companies who are in the material handling business – such as freight, transportation, distribution, warehousing

Key features and benefits of the new World Lithium Forklift include:

  • Lower price point compared to other lithium battery forklifts
  • All weather usage and charging*, designed for use both indoors and outdoors
  • Eliminates need for large indoor space to house and charge electric forklifts
  • Smaller footprint — without compromising on lifting capacity — for small work areas or sharp turning radius requirements (e.g. the 8,000 lb. World Lithium is the same size as a standard 6,000 lb. LPG)
  • Battery control system so users can regulate speed, lifting capacity and battery productivity
  • Simple wireless and configurable cloud monitoring that provides daily, weekly and monthly reporting on key metrics such as charging cycles, usage and energy
  • Zero emissions = clean & quiet
  • Able to run continuous shifts with opportunity charging
  • Regenerating brake and hydraulic system for longer battery life
  • Bundling with charge stations available, with Level I, II or DC Fast Charge
  • Safety features like daylight strobes and white noise generator
  • EPA compliant; CE certified; meets or exceeds all ANSI B56.1
  • Range of sizes with up to 20,000 lb. capacity
  • Customized exterior colors

The XL Lifts / Wiggins Lift Team Awarded Marine Recreation Association Innovation Award for its Work in Lowering Emissions with its Marina and Boatyard Clients

December 6, 2018 — Ventura, CA — XL Lifts, specializing in zero and low emissions forklifts, today announced the company was named a Marine Recreation Association Innovation Award winner for the companies work with progressive marina and boatyards to meet their green initiatives with low emission or zero emission marina electric forklifts. The Marine Recreation Association (MRA) announced the recipients of the Association’s Innovation Awards at its annual conference in Santa Barbara, California.

“It is an honor to recognize the XL Lifts/Wiggins Lift team for their extensive work in zero and low emission forklift technology and services. With their help, progressive marinas and boatyards can reduce their impact on the environment, and still have all the horsepower required to get their jobs done,” said Mark Sandoval, MRA President.

In 2017, XL Lifts worked with Sunnyside Marina in Lake Tahoe to put the first Tier 4 final into operation in California. Earlier this year, North Tahoe Marina was California’s second marina to put a Tier 4f into operation. In 2017, XL Lifts worked with Sunnyside Marina in Lake Tahoe to put the first Tier 4 final into operation in California. Earlier this year, North Tahoe Marina was California’s second marina to put a Tier 4f into operation. Most recently, the Marine Group Boat Works committed to purchasing the first Tier 4f for its San Diego-based shipyard with a grant from the Maritime Administration.

“While other suppliers told us low emission heavy duty equipment was still a concept, XL Lifts was unveiling its latest low-emissions model for us to buy right then and there. In working with XL Lifts, we’ve been able to implement forklift initiatives that are sourced locally and are eco-friendly, require less maintenance and help us far surpass regulatory requirements for at least the next five years,” said Todd Roberts, President at Marine Group Boat Works.

While XL Lifts has made great strides to date on lowering emissions of marinas and shipyards, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Wiggins Lift recently announced the first marina electric forklift using lithium battery technology. The electric eBull for marinas will be the first of its kind, and signifies a big movement towards true zero emissions, not just lower emissions.

“As an authorized Wiggins dealer, XL Lifts will have yet another solution offering for its marina and boatyard clients looking to implement low- and zero-emission forklift initiatives,” said President of XL Lifts Mike Marzahl.

In additional to technical expertise, XL Lifts is well-versed in the grant funding process, and has helped clients secure grant money to offset the cost of low or zero emission forklifts. XL Lifts’ extensive product knowledge coupled with the ability to help clients secure grants to mitigate the costs of advanced lithium-battery technology will help the company continue on its mission to enable zero-emissions marina and boatyards of the future.

November 7, 2018 — Ventura, CA — XL Lifts, specializing in zero and low emissions forklifts, today announced it is partnering with Wiggins Lift Company to distribute the Wiggins Marina eBull, West of the Mississippi River (excluding Texas) and in the Great Lakes region. Taylor Machine Works will continue to distribute Wiggins marina products in all other regions. The Wiggins Marina eBull is the first commercialized lithium battery, large capacity, zero-emissions marina forklift, and further positions Wiggins as a leading provider of low and zero-emission forklifts. The news comes just one month after Wiggins and XL Lifts announced the availability of the Wiggins Yard eBull for port and terminal operators, and manufacturers, logistics, warehousing, industrial and construction companies.

The Wiggins Marina eBull offers a large range of capacities to meet varying boat handling needs, and is built with the same attention to detail, reliability and quality that Wiggins is known for. Featuring innovative, fast charging lithium ion battery technology, the Wiggins Marina eBull can be quickly charged so it can run continuous shifts.

Wiggins’ Director of Sales Micah McDowell commented, “We are excited to work with our dealer XL Lifts to help make the next generation of green marinas a reality. Marinas no longer need to choose between high-performance and energy-efficient forklifts; they can now have both with the new Wiggins Marina eBull.”

“Wiggins is once again leading the charge in marina forklift innovation. The new Marina eBull will significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and sound pollution, while providing marinas and boatyards with the horsepower required to run their operations,” said Mike Marzahl, president of XL Lifts. “With the introduction of the Wiggins Marina eBull, XL Lifts now has a full range of electric forklifts to meet our marina and boatyard client’s needs.”

Key benefits of the new Wiggins Marina eBull include:

  • Zero Emissions: The eBull is designed to meet even the most stringent clean air and noise reduction mandates, such as those required in California. Zero emissions means it can be safely used inside buildings without fumes, soot or noise.

  • AutoLube:  Minimizes downtime by automatically lubricating key components — mast and carriage bearings, tilt cylinders, steer axle bearings — to ensure smooth operation while saving money.
  • Handling:  With the lowest center of gravity and the highest tip factor in the industry, Wiggins has set the standard for safety and handling.
  • Operator Comfort:  A dramatically lower operator console and an AirRide seat significantly improves operator convenience and comfort.
  • Easy Service Access:  The innovative tilt-cab design of the operator console and engine compartment allows easy access at eye level to the entire powertrain when servicing is needed.
  • Enhanced Visibility:  With the lowest counter-weight in the industry, rear visibility is dramatically improved, increasing customer and employee safety while protecting other property from damage.
  • Wiggins Information Center:  The new state of the art IQAN™ System with its adjustable monitor keeps the operator informed about forklift performance and status.
  • Corrosion Protection:  We know your work environment can be tough on equipment. That’s why the Wiggins Marina eBull is built using the latest materials to keep your lift running while extending the life of the equipment, including a stainless steel-coated steer column and critical-area components, as well as zinc-based coatings to prevent rust and corrosion on the mast and chassis.

Availability of Wiggins Marina eBull

The new Wiggins Marina eBull is available now. Marinas and boatyards interested in reducing their forklift carbon footprint and total cost of ownership should contact XL Lifts for more information.
